Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Services

OCD can feel exhausting and overwhelming, often showing up as intrusive, unwanted thoughts and urges that create intense anxiety and can take up hours of your day. You may find yourself stuck in cycles of mental or physical rituals, rumination, reassurance-seeking, or constant doubt – even when you recognize that the thoughts don’t reflect who you are. Therapy offers a space to understand how OCD works, respond differently to intrusive thoughts, and begin loosening its grip on your daily life.

You may benefit from therapy if you:

  • Experience intrusive, unwanted thoughts that cause distress
  • Feel compelled to perform rituals or mental checks to reduce anxiety
  • Struggle with doubt, reassurance-seeking, or fear of uncertainty
  • Feel stuck in cycles that interfere with daily life
  • Want support that helps you respond differently to your thoughts and OCD
  • Are ready to build a more peaceful relationship with your thoughts

My approach to OCD therapy is compassionate, structured, and collaborative. I help clients learn how to relate differently to intrusive thoughts using evidence-based strategies informed by CBT, ERP, and ACT. When appropriate, we also explore underlying experiences or beliefs that may be intensifying OCD symptoms, always at a pace that feels safe and respectful. I can help you build greater tolerance for uncertainty, reduce compulsive behaviors, and regain a sense of freedom and confidence in your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

I address OCD in therapy by helping you change your relationship with intrusive thoughts rather than trying to eliminate them. We have thousands of thoughts each day, but we assign meaning to relatively few. In our work, we reassess what thoughts we give meaning and what was just another thought. We will focus on understanding how OCD operates, reducing compulsive behaviors and reassurance-seeking, and building tolerance for uncertainty.

I use evidence-based approaches informed by ERP, CBT and ACT to help you respond to intrusive thoughts with more flexibility and self-compassion. When appropriate, we also explore underlying experiences or beliefs that may be intensifying symptoms, always moving at a pace that feels supportive and empowering. My goal is to help you feel more confident and less controlled by OCD.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is the gold standard for treating OCD. ERP is a modality that allows you to practice confronting the thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make you anxious & provoke obsessive responses, all within a safe and controlled environment.

I will help you structure our work with ERP so that the pacing feels challenging but workable, rather than overwhelming and impossible.

ERP is great both in person and online. Online can even provide some additional benefits, because I can be virtually present with you in situations or places that may trigger your OCD, whereas in-person therapy at my office offers a safe, neutral location. There is no right or wrong here, just whatever works best for you and our treatment plan.
