Struggles with self-esteem and identity can show up as constant self-doubt, patterns of people-pleasing and comparing yourself to others, feeling like you’re not good enough, or feeling unsure of who you are. You may feel disconnected from your needs, values, or sense of worth, even while trying your best to meet expectations. Therapy offers a space to slow down, explore these patterns with compassion, and begin rebuilding a relationship with yourself that feels more grounded, confident, and authentic.
You may benefit from therapy if you:
In our work together, we’ll gently explore where negative beliefs about yourself began and how they’ve been reinforced over time. I use a collaborative, trauma-informed approach to help you challenge self-critical thoughts, process experiences that shaped your sense of self, and reconnect with your values and strengths. The goal isn’t to become someone new, but to build self-trust, self-compassion, and a clearer sense of who you are.
I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge negative thoughts, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help identify your values, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for tools to help set boundaries, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address the root of these negative beliefs.
Not all of these modalities will work for every client, but compassionate care is always a part of my approach. Together we’ll explore and identify the tools and strategies that will work best for you.
Using a combination of modalities allows us to address the challenges related to self-esteem and identity work happening in the present, while also focusing on the root causes so that these long-standing patterns are then interrupted and prevented from repeating. CBT and ACT are particularly well-regarded for challenging negative thoughts about yourself, while EMDR is excellent for exploring and challenging core beliefs.
Most clients notice improvement in their negative thought patterns within the first few months of therapy, while unlearning negative core beliefs can take more time depending on how deeply rooted those beliefs are and what might be reinforcing them. However, every client is different and healing is an individualized process.
